An Extra-Pleural Solitary Fibrous Tumour

A 70 year old female presented with a right incarcerated femoral hernia. She underwent open right femoral hernia repair under general anaesthesia. A right groin incision was performed. A thickened, oedematous sac containing necrotic fat was found. The fat was unable to be extricated to inspect the bowel. Therefore, a lower midline laparotomy incision was performed. The hernia was reduced internally. It appeared that an appendage of the transverse colon had infarcted in the hernia sac. A large mass was found in the small bowel mesentery 200cm from the terminal ileum. Histopathological diagnosis confirmed the diagnosis of an extra-pleural solitary fibrous tumour.
